Radicals at Christmas: Clement Attlee Christmas cards
At this time of year, these are words that should ring true with us all. Clement Richard Attlee, (1883-1967), was the Leader of the Labour Party from 1935 to 1955 and Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1945 to 1951. His administration presided over the successful transition from wartime to peacetime economy. His ministers did much to transform Britain into a more prosperous and egalitarian society during their time in office with reductions in poverty and a rise in the general economic security of the population. In 2004 he was voted the most successful British Prime Minister of the 20th century by a poll of 139 academics organised by Ipsos Mori.
